Only 1000 examples of this coin were made as Proofs (struck at the Royal Mint) and therefore this is one of the rarest British Five Pound coins. Many of these pieces were scuffed or hairlined. 50 years ago it was not standard practice to package Proof coins in plastic capsules and the 1965 £5 IOM gold coins were often slightly damaged.
